Vaccines

Vaccination consists of introducing a pathogen agent (a bacterium, virus or molecule) into the body that has been deprived of its ability to make you ill- its pathogenicity - but has kept its its ability to induce an immune response - its immunogenicity. In case of a subsequent contact with the pathogen agent, the body will be ready to defend itself, thus protecting the vaccinee against the disease.

According to WHO, immunization saves more than two million lives every year, but more than two million people still die due to lack of access to vaccines. Sanofi pasteur vision is a world in which no one suffers or dies from a vaccine-preventable disease. Therefore, sanofi pasteur offers the broadest range of vaccines in the world, providing protection against 20 bacterial and viral diseases. Each year, sanofi pasteur provides more than a billion doses of vaccines, making it possible to vaccinate more than 500 million people across the globe.

Sanofi pasteur research and development activities is vast and complex, encompassing the entire chain of events before a new vaccine becomes available - from understanding a disease and its biological foundations, to clinical development and testing, to obtaining health authorities' approval for  marketing the new vaccine. Sanofi pasteur invests more than  US$1 million in research and development every day.
